My name is Heidi and I'm still deciding what I want to be when I grow up. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, I've found home in the high desert of New Mexico. A sahm since 2003, I find inspiration in my favorite three little people.
Most days I think I want to be an early education art teacher. I am totally that crazy lady letting my children finger paint over carpet. Okay, they don't really spill, and I really dislike carpet. Do your kids want to come over and spill art on my carpet?
May through October I spend a lot of time vegetable gardening. One day I even hope to be good at it. We've been composting since 2006 and our worms are cherished family pets. My kids won't let you leave until you hold one.
When it's time to unwind and the children are in bed I often find myself at the sewing machine. Shopping for fabric is really fun, and I buy more than I need for my own personal use. My extra handmade goodies, currently a whole heck of a lot of cloth diapering apparel, can be found for sale at my shop "Modern Olive" on Etsy.
My newest endeavor is allergen free cooking and baking. My youngest son is allergic to dairy, eggs*, peanuts, poppy seeds, and millet, as well as being super gluten intolerant. He is also at high risk for developing a soy allergy, so our Allergist wants him to stay away from that, too. After almost a year of tireless internet research I've got a strong hold on the cooking. The baking from scratch, however, (remember the high altitude?) is not going so well. I have yet to find a single from scratch recipe that comes close to the deliciousness of commercially available mixes, and that really gets my goat. Goad? (*Egg whites and yolk, though he can still eat a teeny amount of egg buried in a recipe, and for this I am you-have-no-idea-oh-so grateful.) I have learned so much from blogs that it's now my turn to my pass my favorite recipes on. (Oh, and I really want to make my own yogurt -- I just haven't found the right base recipe/ingredients yet.)
I don't get to blog as much as I'd like -- I blame the children. Totally worth it, though.
